Summer School on European Business Law
The Summer School on European Business Law is a joint project by the Faculty of Law at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) of Herzliya, a top-tier law faculty in Israel, and the Law Faculty of Tilburg University (the Netherlands). We host (graduate) students from these faculties, but the program is also open generally to participation by anyone who qualifies for the program. International applicants are particularly welcome.
The 40-hour course program focuses on corporate law, securities law, antitrust law and intellectual property law, but some attention is paid to European constitutional, mediation and tax law. The lectures are structured pursuant to the Socratic method. Participants are expected to have read the suggested reading materials prior to attending. A certificate is provided upon completing the program, based on the participant’s attendance.
Summer School course components are taught by recognized professionals and academics with strong teaching skills and extensive experience in their respective fields. The lectures are generally held on campus at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. Special lectures at some of the most prestigious German law firms provide a unique insight into European business law practice. At a networking barbecue, legal professionals and participants have the chance to meet one another informally.
The summer school is excellent preparation for advanced- and graduate-level classes in European business law, and is also recommended for non-European students considering internships or graduate-level study in the European Union. The language of all classes and reading materials is English. The typical participant is a graduate (or graduate student) who seeks to extend his or her knowledge of European business law within a compact and advanced format and is seeking to broaden his or her professional networks within the legal community of Germany's most vibrant business law city.
